His Why Being a patient family, Chris Chan appreciated BC Children’s hospital services by giving back to the community through volunteering and started his philanthropic journey. Chris is also a regular blood donor to save lives. As his son was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 3 years old and recovered after 3.5 years of chemotherapy, he was inspired to give back to the community. Being a Realtor for 28 years, he meets with many people everyday and he enjoyed sharing his experience with friends and clients to encourage others to volunteer and participate more in community work. In 2010, together with his wife Stella and his son Arthur, they founded the “Young Ambassador Program” (YAP) to create different meaningful projects for youth to volunteer and fundraise for the BC Children's Hospital Foundation (BCCHF) and other meaningful charity organizations and in 2020, a they break the accumulated net donation of over $2 million net was fundraised to the hospital foundation through this YAP Program. Chris also serves as the Committee Member of the Chinese Canadian Miracle Weekend (Chinese Canadian Rise for Kids) at BCCHF since 2010. Through different creative projects, the youth seek donors and sponsors to support the projects through volunteering and fundraising through the guidance from Chris and other leaders to learn leadership, entrepreneur & organizational skill, marketing and business thinking methodology etc. The Young Ambassador Program's youth members grew from 14 in 2010 to over 100 in 2015 and continued to grow every single year. Other than overseeing and coaching the youth to learn the skill set that they need in the real world, Chris is also a regular blood donor to Canadian Blood Services, he always encourages others to donate blood with him. In 2014, Chris was featured in Canada Blood Services Donor Magazine the "Pulse" and was also featured on their 2014-2015 Annual Report. Chris was delighted to become a regular blood donor who can inspire others to do the same. Furthermore, he was being interviewed by Fairchild TV's Jack Webster Award winning Best Reporting Cantonese Program "Magazine 26" to talk about his experience in donating blood . His goal is to reach out and inspire more people in our communities to donate blood that can save more people who are in need of blood. His family supported many charity organizations in the past decades. Living by example, Chris and his wife Stella both mentored their son Arthur Chan to start his philanthropy journey when he was a teenager. Chris Chan is giving back to the community in his own unique way and he believes that we can build a strong community today for a better tomorrow by giving instead of taking.
